Jennie Withers

Jennie Withers wants people to know how the world works. "You can go through life just having everyone do all of the technical stuff for you, or you can learn a little bit about it yourself..." Understanding science, she says, "gives you a greater appreciation of the things around you and it satisfies a lot of curiosity too." Jennie's goal for the 2009-2010 academic year is to volunteer for as many Science Theatre shows as possible and, judging by her performance in October, she's well on her way. Jennie is Science Theatre's Member of the Month for October 2009.

Jennie performed in the October 13th show at Woodcreek Elementary in Lansing and at the October 30th Halloween Show at MSU's Abrams Planetarium. She also attended the second general body meeting, where she helped in Science Theatre's efforts to rennovate its headquarters in the Planetarium by painstakingly cataloging our extensive collection of chemicals. More recently, Jennie has joined the working group to develop an hour-long Astronomy Show for Science Theatre. Her favorite memory, though, was attending the Science Theatre Social visit to Uncle John's Cider Mill in St. Johns on September 19th. Jennie writes of the social, it "was a lot of fun and definitely one of the reasons that I continued to do this and I'm so glad I went."

Jennie lends every performance she makes with Science Theatre her theatrical experience from high school and her enthusiasm for teaching children. She writes, "I like trying to get kids to see the fun and importance in science so I figured it would be perfect and with every thing I do for ST, I just get more and more hooked."

Jennie is an Astrophysics and Russian freshman from Charlevoix. After she graduates, she would like to do astronomical research at a university or observatory.
