December 2009

As a science outreach program, Science Theatre could not exist without members who volunteer their time to work with students in person at public performances. For every hour on stage, though, are are many more hours of work by volunteers who design Science Theatre's content, organize its members, and manage its resources. Science Theatre's Member of the Month for December 2009 has illustrated that you can be a vital part of Science Theatre from home! Kevin work has been invaluable in the training of other Science Theatre members and the preparation for shows.
Kevin writes, "I chose to get involved with Science Theatre because of my interest in teaching and my involvment with the sciences. Everyone has the ability to learn, and by introducing the sciences in an interactive and fun way; we open minds to how fun science can be." He plans to be a high school math teacher in Japan and is also interested in psychiatry.
When scheduling conflicts prevents Kevin from participating in shows during Fall of 2009, he found other ways to support Science Theatre. Kevin edited and uploaded seven demonstration writeups to Science Theatre's online documentation database, more than any other member. He also volunteered to write documents for the demonstrations that Dr. Paul Hunter performed at the general body meeting on October 22nd. Kevin intends to make his first performance with Science Theatre this Spring.
Kevin is a Lyman Briggs mathematics major, with additional majors in Japanese and Global Education.
