Kristin Drumheller
Science Theatre's Member of the Month for February 2010, Kristin Drumheller, has a phenomenal ability to relate to children. She writes, "Science is a very challenging field and it can be discouraging for a lot of kids to sit in class all day with no idea what their teacher is talking about but if we can spark and interest in their minds at an early age, the more likely they are to stick with it... I love to see the excitement on the children’s faces when we hit the climax of the experiment and they are genuinely interested in why that happened."
In her first year at MSU, Kristin has already made extensive contributions to Science Theatre. She volunteered for Chemistry Day at Impression 5 on October 10th, at Threshold Academy in Orleans on October 23rd, and at ASA Prep in Detroit on January 28th. She also helped to reorganize Science Theatre's headquarters in the Abrams Planetarium on September 30th.
To describe her attraction to Science Theatre, she writes, "I have always had a passion for science and I love working with kids. What better way to combine the two than to help kids realize how exciting science can be."
Kristin is a Freshman Human Biology major in Lyman Briggs College from the Philadelphia area. She is working to become a pediatric oncologist and is interested in genetics and epidemiology.
